Matildas captain Sam Kerr could be facing more time on the sidelines

Chelsea Women's Manager Sonia Bompastor is doubtful that Matildas -Spits Sam Kerr will return before the end of the Super League season for women.

The 31 -year -old is currently working back from undergoing an operation to a front cruciate ligament (ACL) injury that she sustained in January 2024 during a training camp at Chelsea.

The football player was expected to make a comeback in recent months, after her high -profile process in which Kerr was not found guilty of the racially aggravated intimidation of a British police officer.

Although hopeful Kerr could make it for the last league match of the blues of the season against Manchester United on May 18, Bompastor refused to draw on the exact time frame with which Kerr could return.

“It's hard for me to say because everyone is different and everyone responds differently,” the Chelsea boss told reporters when he continues when Kerr could probably return.

'Sam is progressing in her rehabilitation, but I don't have enough elements to say if we will see her this season.

“Hopefully yes, but it's hard for me to say.”

It comes after Kerr has returned to training on grass last month.

She also traveled back to Australia earlier this month and trained with members of the Matildas team, but did not play in one of their friendly games against South Korea.

It means that Kerr has now been offside for 15 months with the ligament injury.

Only a week ago did another Aussie star, Mary Fowler, also tore her cross, during the Super League defeat of Manchester City against Man United.

Fowler was in good shape this season for the Cityzens and Australia, in the absence of Kerr, and in particular scored in the 2-10 victory of the Matildas against South Korea.

Australia will play two international friendly games against Argentina on 30 May and again on 2 June.

In the meantime, Kerr will also welcome a baby boy this year, with her fiancée Kristie Mewis who expects the first child of the couple.
