UFC Vegas 107 star Maycee Barber has long had high expectations of her career.
Barber broke on stage just 20 years old and earned a contract on the Contender Series of Dana White before she won her first three UFC fights via TKO.
At that time, 'The Future' was tipped on a large scale to make her name come true and to stand all the way to the top as an undefeated hunter.
It was not only sharing of the fan base and members of its team that made such claims. Barber admitted high self-confidence that she had made the UFC president a daring statement with regard to her star power.
“I told him that I would be so big, if no bigger than Conor McGregor and Ronda Rousey and all the stars he has,” Barber told MMA Fighting. “And I am one of his next big stars.”
Comparisons between Barber and Rousey flew around, and the first made a stir when she claimed to be “a new athlete race” compared to the former Bantam weight champion.
But the trip to 'Rowdy' and 'Notorious' quickly came across a brutal barrier.
Maycee Barber's hope for Conor McGregor and Ronda Rousey-like star rowed took a hit against Roxanne Modafferi
After comfortably past Hannah Cifers, JJ Aldrich and Gillian Robertson, Barber was linked to Roxanne Modafferi.
'The Happy Warrior', a veteran of MMA who had only won two of her four fights after he missed that he had become the inaugural UFC women's flying -weight champion, was generally expected to be defeated. But the now retired native Delaware shocked the combat sport world.
Modafferi laid a beating on Barber in an unexpected bloody affair at UFC 246. Making Matters worse for 'The Future' was the fact that they suffered a torn ACL during the loss.
Because Modafferi had entered the cage in Las Vegas as a +550 underdog, the result marked one of the largest disturbances of 2020 and the planned rise from Barber to star row.
The newest setback of Maycee Barber came on the scale
In the following years, the 27-year-old was able to work back as a highly recommended name on 125 pounds.
Six straight victories since Barber's loss against Alexa Grasso helped with that chase and have left her as the number 5-ranked flight weight candidate for women.
With that in mind, the UFC Vegas 107 event on Saturday seemed to offer a chance for Barber to use her claim for a first title shot.
But talking about a victory over Blanchfield and put her at the top of the pile, when Barber missed the stamp on the scale at the weightings of Friday.
The weight accident was probably music relative to the ears of Natalia Silva, whose claim on the following occasion at Valentina Shevchenko is likely to be cemented, even if Barber the victory appears in the top.
