Mbappe given one-match ban for tackle in Alaves match

Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappe will serve a suspension of one match after his tackle on Alaves' Antonio Blanco, said the Spanish football federation (RFEF) Tuesday.

The Frenchman was shown a straight red card in Sunday's game against Alaves for a violent challenge in midfielder Blanco, where the referee destroyed his first decision to give him a yellow after a VAR assessment.

The disciplinary committee of the RFEF ruled that the dismissal justified the minimum sanction of one competition on the basis of Article 130 of his regulations.

After the incident, Mbappe apologized to Blanco and his Real Madrid teammates. He will miss the next game from Real against Athletic on Sunday.

Manu Sanchez from Alaves, who was sent for a similar challenge for Vinicius Junior in the same competition, will also serve a ban from one competition.

The red card from Mbappe came four minutes after Eduardo Camavinga scored what turned out to be the only goal when Madrid saw a 1-0 win against Alaves.

The victory moved the side of Carlo Ancelotti within four points of Laliga leaders Barcelona, who themselves were 1-0 winners at Leganes on Saturday.

Mbappe has scored 22 goals and helped three more in 29 Laliga performances since he arrived at Real Madrid.

Speaking after Madrid's victory, assistant manager Davide Ancelotti said about Mbappe's challenge: “Kylian is certainly not a violent man.

“He is a man who has apologized and is aware of the mistake he has made. It was a clear red card and he paid the consequences.

“I think the many small mistakes that were committed against him have responded to him in this way, which is the wrong way to respond. I am not just, but I think it happened.”
