Kylian Mbappe has revealed that he often receives words of advice from Cristiano Ronaldo while expressing his pride in matching the number of goals that the Portuguese managed in his first season in Real Madrid.
Mbappe took a brace when Madrid kept the pressure on Laliga leaders Barcelona with a 3-2 victory over Leganes on Saturday evening.
He opened the score with a daring Pannenka penalty before getting the winner with his first free kick in professional football.
The second goal made it 33 in 44 performances in all competitions this season, so that he saw a remarkable milestone reach.
33 is the amount of goals that Ronaldo has managed in his debut campaign in the Bernabeu, although he did in just 35 games.
Speaking after the game that saw the draw on points with Barcelona, Mbappe told Real Madrid TV: 'It's very special … to have the same number of goals as Cristiano is always good.
“We know what he means for Real Madrid and me, we speak, he gives me a lot of advice, he scored many goals – but we have to win trophies here.”
Mbappe received a lot of criticism after a slow start of the season, but has silenced his doubters with his performances since the turn of the year.
The Frenchman scored 16 goals in his last 16 league matches and now there is only one player in the history of the club who scored more times in his first season.
Ivan Zamorano managed 37 goals in 45 performances when he came to the club in 1992 and you should imagine that only injury Mbappe can stop breaking his record.
