Caen, owned by Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe, has had a relegation to the third level of France.
The club has passed a difficult season with only five wins of 31 league games so far and are rooted to the bottom of Ligue 2.
And they suffered a 3-0 defeat in the hands of Martigues on Friday to confirm their relegation to the ChampionNat National, which includes both professional and semi-professional clubs.
Next season the first time of Caen since 1984 will be outside the two best divisions of France.
Fans announced their frustration to the owners, players and manager with various banners after the game had ended.
One banner read: “Management, players: all guilty, completely out.”
Another said: 'Malherbe is us, the s *** is you', in reference to the full name of the club, Stade Malherbe Caen.
In January, fans invaded the field to confront players and employees immediately after a new defeat.
Mbappe bought a majority stake in Caen last summer for £ 12.6 million through mutual companies, founded by the Real Madrid star, via its investment arm, Coalition Capital.
A month later, the Frenchman made a surprise visit to the club and claimed that he understands their frustration.
The 26-year-old said at the time: 'It is important that I am here. I want to show my support, be in contact with everyone and for them to know that they are counting on me, and especially in the situation we are in, “said Mbappe.
'If I am here, it will be because I believe in the project. I wanted to come earlier, but it was impossible. I told them that I was with them and that they had to believe. And I saw a group that was not resigned and wants to change the results.
'I think that with the quality of the team and the support of the fans, things can change and I hope this is a turning point. In football we have seen that nothing is impossible.
'There is a lack of trust, but I think a good result can change the spiral of the team. I understand the frustration of the people, as I told them personally, because I have not experienced this before.
“It's normal to be angry, but supporting people, filling the stadium and our mission is to give our best.”
Caen is a proud club near the north coast of France with the highest presence figures in the French second layer, with an average of 15,000 supporters coming to the Stade Michel-D'ornano.
Players such as N'Golo Kante, William Gallas and Thomas Lemar have put on the shirt in recent years.
Caen Scout David Lasry revealed in a BBC documentary that the club had come close to signing Mbappe when the attacker was only 13.
Mbappe's father had reportedly confirmed that they had agreed that their son joined the club who were located in Normandy.
However, the deal collapsed when Caen was relegated from Ligue 1 to the second layer in 2012.
Instead, Mbappe would become a member of the Monaco Academy, with the attacker who later broke in the first team set-up before he came to PSG.
