Mbeumo hails ‘fantastic’ Frank after Brentford departure

Bryan Mbeumo has praised his old Brentford coach, Thomas Frank, and believes that he will do well in Tottenham.

Frank replaced the recently dismissed Ange Postecoglou on Spurs last week and ended a stay of almost seven years in Brentford.

At that time, the Dane led the bees to the Premier League for the first time in their history, while their 10th place ended in 2024-25 their second highest in the competition.

Frank brought Mbeumo to Brentford in August 2019 for a club record compensation at that time. Since then he has made 242 performances for the club in all matches.

He played in every Premier League match last season and produced his best return when he produced 20 goals and produced eight assists.

Only Mohamed Salah (29), Alexander Isak (23) and Erling Haaland (22) score more goals in the competition than Mbeumo.

And Mbeumo expects Frank to leave his stamp with Spurs in the coming season.

“He did so much for me. He literally trusted me from the start,” Mbeumo told Sky Sports. “I think he has developed the team so well.

“He also developed me as a person and a player. So I can only wish him the very best, and I am sure he will do well.

“I think he knows everything. He is really smart. He knows where he wants to bring the team, how he wants to play. I think he has been fantastic for Brentford.

“I think he will of course have some time to adapt. [Champions League] Games, more expectations, as you said, but I am sure he will do well.

“He knows how to talk to people. He knows how to build a group. And that's why we played so well.”

The set piece coach from Brentford, Keith Andrews, is reportedly one of the leaders who took over as the successor to Frank.

However, the future of Mbeumo in the club is in the air, with reports that suggest that he is attracting a lot of interest.

Some link him with a step to join Frank near Tottenham, while Manchester United is said to be in the race for his signature.

“It [transfer speculation] Is a bit new to me, I would say! “Mbeumo added.

“I think it can be the life of a football player, and you have to accept it.

“It has been my best season in the Premier League so far. And even collectively I think we played very good games. I think we had bad luck to chase the Europe place, but I think it has been a fantastic season.”
