McCoist hails Mings’ save of the season to deny Club Brugge a certain goal

Ally McCoist filed a daring claim after Tyrone Mings had saved Aston Villa to give up the second goal against Club Brugge on Tuesday.

The collision in Jan Breydel Stadium started in the best possible way for the men of Unai Emery after Leon Bailey gave the lead after a set piece game in the third minute of the game.

With 0-1 on the score sheet, however, Villa lost control of the game when the left-wing rearback-Maxim de Cuyper made it right in the 12th minute.

Club Brugge stood close to the nets of another goal after a spectacular cross by Christos Tzolis on the left wing, followed by a confident attack by Captain Hans Vanaken.

But Mings – who also helped Bailey's opening goal – denied it in the 69th minute with one of the most memorable rescues in the history of the Champions League.

“I think that's the save of the season for Tyrone Mings,” said commentator McCoist.

“That is the rescue of the season. That is incredible. '

Mings' Save has clearly increased the confidence of Emery's men, while Villa followed with a series of counterattacks until they finally took the lead in the 82nd minute through their own goal from Brandon Mechele.

Moments later, newcomer Marco Asensio took his fifth goal for the Birmingham club while he scored a penalty to close a 3-1 for the visitors.

The Spaniard became the first player in the history of the tournament that achieved 50 performances by the bank on Tuesday.

The victory on the Belgian side also marked its 70th game in the Champions League, including 59 for Real Madrid and 10 for Paris Saint-Germain.

In the meantime, Mings enjoys a productive 2025 in the middle of Villas in the defense line, with 10 games 11 times since the beginning of January.

Pau Torres, however, finally returned to the team after his midfoot, which he sustained at the end of December last year.

The 28-year-old Spain International was a big doubt for Emery and stayed on the couch throughout the game.
