McTominay has proved that Man United were wrong to sell him, says Andy Robertson

Andy Robertson says that Scotland teammate Scott McTominay Manchester United has shown that they were wrong to sell him to Napoli.

And he insists that the midfielder 'did not receive the respect he deserves' at Old Trafford before he goes to Italy and wins the competition title.

Mctominay comes from the debut season of his dreams in the Serie A after he had scored the goal against Cagliari who propelled the side of Antonio Conte to the Scudetto.

Voted the most valuable player of the competition after contributing 12 goals and six assists, the 28-year-old was sold by United for only £ 25.7 million last year.

Liverpool Full-back Robertson believes that his one-off Premier League-Rival could no longer have done to show his former club exactly what they missed.

“I think he went there with a point to prove,” said the Scotland captain friendly with Iceland in Hampden prior to Friday night.

“He wanted to prove the man Utd incorrectly and incorrect people in the Premier League, and he went there and did it quite successfully.

“That is the honor of him, the honor of his attitude and his determination to be the best version of himself.

“Now he is a king there. At Man Utd he probably did not lack that series of games consistently, he was in and out and things like that.

“He probably didn't get the respect he deserves.

'Then he goes there, brings a wonderful season and, honest game for him, he ends it with the competition title.

'Everyone knows how passionate their fans are, so for them to love one of us, it is also quite special for Scotland.

“They also love Billy (Gilmour), so the honor for both to go there, to be successful and win the trophy.”

Despite Mctominay and teammate Gilmour, the fourth title of Napoli Vervig, both check -in as planned this week while Scotland prepared for hosting the Icelanders.

Lewis Ferguson recently joins Bologna at the Coppa Italia, and Roberston finds the success that his international teammates recently enjoyed, their just reward is for making such daring career ramps.

“We have seen Scott and Billy go there, we have seen Lewis Ferguson go there, Aaron Hickey, Che Adams,” he said.

'We also played Max Johnston abroad (with Sturm Graz). And when players move abroad, they see a different way of playing and a different lifestyle.

'That can only help the young boys who come through and it would not surprise me if they think they want to go and try it.

'It is the honor of boys for the release of their comfort zone.

'I feel that the more people we have with that winning mentality, play in the final and play in the last game of the season when you have to win, it can only help us when things get high pressure for Scotland.

'This season was a fairly good in that area. Ladies have played in high -pressure games, won titles and trophies. That can only help us to go in the future. '

Scotland is confronted with Iceland before he travels to Liechtenstein on Monday, while the side of Steve Clarke would have the disappointment relegated from the top layer of the Nations League in March behind them.

After won the Play-Off's first stage in Greece 1-0, Scotland was dismantled 3-0 in Hampden.

The World Cup qualifying campaign starts in September with an away -amusing header against Denmark and Wit -Russia, and Robertson believes that the team will be better for the adversity they have experienced.

“We learned a lot from the Greece games,” he emphasized.

'Maybe the two legs that did travel took it a bit out of us.

'That is where the mentality, knowing what is needed in large games, is where we should be better.

“We have to be as fresh as we can comment on that second game, deeply dig if it doesn't go well.”
