Meet Lionesses’ hero Agyemang: Former ball girl but saved England TWICE now

As if we had never seen this script before, it plays in one way or another.

England is marching to their third consecutive big tournament, and again, they have thanked Michelle Agyemang and Chloe Kelly.

“She feels inevitable now,” said England, Captain Leah Williamson of the teenage sensation.

The most remarkable part? Agaremang should not even be here.

Originally from South Ocendon in Essex, Agaremang was sent on loan this season by Arsenal to 'continue its development' in Brighton, where she only made three start for the Seagulls towards the end of their campaign.

Then came the sliding door moment-misschien from the entire Eurocampagne-Slechts two months before Sarina Wiegman would call her team for Switzerland when Alessia Russo took a knock halfway through the English Nations League Double header with Belgium, and Agyemang was hurried to replace it.

England was about to have a frustrating result in Leuven, the score remained 3-1, when Aferemang was introduced in the 80th minute.

Only forty -one seconds later Leah found Williamson's looping cross of Deep Haar. One touch to check with her thigh, the second to shoot it in the roof of the net.

After a short celebration, Agyemang took the ball out of the net and ran back to the penalty spot.

The goal did not generate a complete comeback on-the final score remained 3-2 but it was a considerable debut statement.

Agaremang, a lifelong Arsenal fan, joined the Gunners' Academy of six years old. Born from Ghanaian parents, she has long been tipped for the spotlight – although perhaps not that fast.

Asked that night in Belgium if she saw Agaremang as a backup of Russo, Wiegman quickly was the expectations and answered: 'That is really fast. I can't say that now. She is an absolute talent and I think she is a very good song nine.

'It's too early to say where that goes and when the players come back and are fit, the competition in the front is really high. But if it is not in the short term, then she is an exciting player in the longer term. '

Delete all of that – Agryemang is now a player for. Twice she came to the rescue in this euro campaign in this Eurocampagne, and twice she delivered in the largest stage in Europe when the clock began to say that it was all over.

“She is incredible,” said Chloe Kelly – her future Arsenal teammate and colleague Super Sub – after the game. “She has the world at her feet. A young player with a bright future and I absolutely buzzes for her. '

Only four years ago, Agyemang was a Balmeisje at Wembley for the third game of Wiegman – a world cup qualification against Noord -Ireland in 2021 – and he was impressed by so close to the action.

“It was crazy, seeing the girls so close to my face,” she recently remembered. “Beth Mead got a hat trick that day, so being part of that experience was invaluable and I will never forget it.”

Now those same players sing the praise of the 19-year-old after her late rescue act has obtained a historic final for this ruthless team.

“She is very modest and knows her strength, and that gives her confidence,” said Lucy Bronze last night. “She knows she is a strong girl and she knows she can end up.

“She can put the ball in the back of the net. She does it in training and she works tirelessly every day in training against our Centrumhalves-Ze and making sure she is fresh for when she comes up like a sub.

'But what a future is the child presented for her -at the age of 19 she helps the English team to a euro final. I can't imagine that her or her family ever dreamed of it. '

The rise of Agaremang has been fast and Wiegman has embraced her raw talent – while she also suggests that she relieves something in the training.

“In duels I think she should calm down a little while making some mistakes,” Wiegman said in May. “You hardly want to destroy your opponent.”

The reaction of Bronze was to tell Agaremang to go faster.

“We had that conversation, me and Sarina, and I worked on it in the training, and I think I have improved it,” Agyemang said recently.

“But Lucy said she thinks it is a super power of mine and I know that Lucy is also physical, so we like to go into training and it's nice to have that kind of opponent – then you can reflect it in the game.”

Her physicality has become her determining feature in this tournament, so that feathers accelerate in each of the three games she has come from the bank.

Four caps, three goals – it was quite the return.
