Merab Dvalishvili compares himself to Mike Tyson and Jon Jones amid ‘drama’ before UFC 311 title defense

Ahead of his UFC 311 title defense against Umar Nurmagomedov, Merab Dvalishvili has compared himself to combat sports greats Jon Jones and Mike Tyson.

After winning the UFC bantamweight title at UFC 306, Merab Dvalishvili made it relatively clear that he was not interested in defending his title against Umar Nurmagomedov.

Despite this, the promotion announced that 'The Machine' would face the undefeated Russian in the co-main event of UFC 311, which was highlighted by fans as a blockbuster card.

Merab Dvalishvili makes a bizarre comparison of himself to Mike Tyson and Jon Jones

Like his teammate, Aljamain Sterling, Dvalishvili wasn't given much choice when it came to defending his title and it won't be until four months since he won the title he turns to defend.

The Georgian believes that a lot of 'drama' has arisen around him since he became champion. At UFC 310, while cornering Sterling, Dvalishvili got into another altercation with a fan, which isn't the first time.

More recently, the 33-year-old announced on social media that he was not allowed to train at the UFC's Performance Institute in Vegas because Nurmagomedov and his team were keeping it occupied and the promotion wanted to avoid an unnecessary run. ins.

“The last few fights I have gotten a lot of attention, people recognize me, but people are expressing hate on Instagram and social media, which is very difficult for me,” Merab told ESPN MMA.

“The best way now is I just have to keep busy and argue and that's it because I would enjoy myself for a while but now I feel like I'm Conor McGregor. There's going to be a lot of drama, even Jon Jones and like Mike Tyson got a lot of drama, but it's all good,” he continued.

Merab Dvalishvili has fans worried due to injury

The aforementioned incident where the 33-year-old champion was ejected from the UFC PI is not because he was going to train there, but because he was going to be treated for an injury.

Dvalishvili admitted that he would go there to receive treatment and sign some documents. Fans started sharing their concerns, wondering what injury he has so close to his fight.

Despite this, the Georgian is still scheduled to make his first defense of his 135-pound title on January 18 and unfortunately will likely not enter the fight at 100%.
