Messi at the double as Inter Miami maul Montreal

Inter Miami returned to Major League Soccer in style after their recent, remarkable performance at the Club World Cup.

Despite a painful loss of 4-0 for PSG in the round of 16, Las Garzas bounced back in style-back in the domestic league action with a heavily fought away victory against Montréal.

But the men of Mascherano were forced to come from behind after Montreal opened the score for only two minutes in the game – fueled by a non -characteristic mistake from Lionel Messi.

Montreal takes the lead

The Argentinian tried a routine back pass to defender Tomás Avilés, but rated it wrong, allowing Prince-Sei Owusu to jump on the ball. The striker intercepted the Pass and slot past goalkeeper óscar Ustari. A gift wrapped goal, thanks to Messi.

The atmosphere in Stade Saputo became electric, but the Mascherano Kromp team did not enter. Instead, they kicked high gear and launched wave after wave of attacks on the network of the locals.

The goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois van Montréal kept the visitors out and made a series of heroic saves to keep his team ahead, but the leadership did not last long.

Tadeo Allende finally found a road past Sirois, making it 1-1 in 33 minutes, thanks to a brilliant assist from Messi.

As if he is about to be, the Argentinian superstar appeared with the kind of sparkle that he can only evoke. With characteristic poise, he cut through home defense, grabbed his place and then shot past the keeper to set up the visitors 1-2.

A dazzling left-wing finish that put the seal on the comeback and it was just the beginning. The Argentinian bait would score twice, but not before he records a career pile: his 385th professional assistant.

Segovia joins the party

Telasco Segovia added a stunning third. The Venezuelan inside and released the Venezuelan a curly effort in the top corner – that came in from the bar.

Segovia's Wonder Strike had hardly stopped echoing through the stands when Messi still produced a stunning moment. With a rapid change of pace, he slalomed six impact defenders and then walked Cooly past the keeper – a golden exclamation to underline the dominant performance of the visitors.

Messi turns on the style for Suárez

Minutes later, with the crowd in Montreal's Stade Saputo who sang his name, Messi turned from Scorer to Showman. He spent the last stretch nutrition ball after the ball to his old friend Luis Suárez, hoping that the Uruguayan striker could add the fifth and complete the “Manita”.

And he almost did that. In the 88th minute Suárez found the net, only for the goal to be ruled out of the side. Yet Messi's playful chemistry with “El Pistolero” fans smiled – and defenders left dizzy.

It ended 1-4 – more than just a victory. It felt like the start of something bigger: the return of a team that has never been gone.
