Lionel Messi is about to sign a bumper new contract with Inter Miami.
The Argentinian legend came to the MLS side in 2023 and has since become the face of the stateside.
Messi, 37, joined a free agent for a deal that ends at the end of this year.
But reports suggest that the World Cup winner is about to extend his stay in the Sunshine State.
David Ornstein of athletics claims that Messi and Miami are “close to agreement” about a new contract.
It would use Messi his future for the MLS Club, which won the Leagues Cup last season in 2024 and the Supporters Shield.
Miami Managing Owner Jorge Mas has handled the negotiations.
He said to FDP Radio Miami: “The stars are connected to something great, for a wonderful future for the club and for Lionel. It's just his decision.
“I expect that we will have to determine all of this within 60-90 days.
“My hope has always been – and everything we do – is to see Messi play in our new stadium in 2026. Hopefully that will happen.”
The club was founded by David Beckham and is preparing to move to the $ 1 billion Miami Freedom Park Stadium from the 2026 season.
The new complex with 25,000 seats is part of a broader development of 131 hectares.
Messi, an eight-time balloon d'Or winner, has scored 42 goals in 48 games since he came to Miami.
He is credited to help the MLS to a new audience.
And he will lead the team this summer during the renewed Club World Cup.
Miami is signed next to the Brazilian Palmeiras, Portugal's Porto and Egypt's al-Ahly in group A.
