Mesut Ozil tells Real Madrid to protect rising star

Former Real Madrid star Mesut Ozil has told the club to do more to protect Arda Guler against criticism and damage.

Guler struggled in Madrid during his first 18 months with injuries, but he remains highly appreciated by Carlo Ancelotti.

The club opposed the urge to lend him in the summer and again in January despite offers from Italy and his native Turkey.

Ancelotti has looked into the 19-year-old in recent months in his first team plans, but his playing time remains limited.

It is a delicate balance for Ancelotti and Guler with the Italian good at home in what it takes to play in Crunch games in La Liga and the UEFA Champions League.

With a crowded schedule between now and the end of the campaign, Ancelotti Guler will use Guler, and he could appear in the midweek against Manchester City.

Ozil claims that he sees some similarities between himself and Guler in both their playing styles and their struggles to have an early impact in Madrid.

“I see a lot of myself in Arda Guler. We have to do more to protect talents like he, “he told an interview with TRT Spor.

With Real Madrid who wants to fight at three games in the coming months, Guler will hope for a chance, because he also tries to breathe new life into his international opportunities.

Turkey -head coach Vincenzo Montella has previously emphasized his concern about the lack of fame of Guler in Madrid, while he wants to find a place for him in the national team.

In the coming days, Montella will decide whether to include him in his team for the international window of March.

Turkey is confronted with home and road races against Hungary in a UEFA Nations League play -off, before 2026 the FIFA World Cup qualification starts in September, after June friendships against Iran and another opponent on home floor.
