A police officer said that he was “determined to” pursue the persecution of Chelsea footballer Sam Kerr after she called him “stupid and white”, a court heard.
Australia International Kerr has been accused of causing racially aggravated intimidation to PC Stephen Lovell during an incident in southwestern London in the early hours of January 30, 2023.
It is claimed that Kerr, 31, and her partner, West Ham midfielder Kristie Mewis, had been drinking when they were driven by a taxi driver to the police station of Twickenham who complained that they had refused to pay clean-up costs after one of them was Sick and that one of them hit the rear window of the vehicle.
The women said officers that the driver “had worn in a crazy way” by driving very quickly, repeatedly stopping and accelerating it again, locking them in the car and refusing to let them go for about 15 minutes, Kingston Crown Court heard Like the test continued on Tuesday.
Images of PC Lovell's body -glorious camera were previously played for jury members, in which Kerr PC Lovell and PC Samuel Limb says that they and Mrs. Mewis were “very scared” and “tried to escape” the cabin when they damaged the vehicle.
At the police station, Kerr is said to have become “offensive and offensive” against PC Lovell and he calls him “stupid and white”.
Kerr accepts the making of the comments, but denies that they amount to the costs.
The Crown Prosecution Service originally decided not to accuse Kerr, the court heard.
PC Lovell was stated that he only provided a statement stating that the comments of Mrs. Kerr had caused alarm or intimidation after that decision.
In his first statement to the CPS, the officer did not report the “stupid and white” remark with an impact on him, the jury was told.
The police submitted a request to revise the CPS decision not to prosecute, and it replied that the outcome would be limited to an apology, the court heard.
Public prosecutors later asked for further evidence and a second statement from PC Lovell was provided in December 2023, with the alleged impact.
He read part of the statement to the court stating that the comments “shocked him, upset and (left) made me feel humiliated”.
The indictment was authorized later in December 2023, almost a year after the incident.
Grace Forbes, defensive Kerr, said during Cross Exercise: “The only reason you made that statement was because the Crown Prosecution Service had refused to be allowed to prosecute a criminal charge to prosecute Mrs. Kerr.”
He responded “no” before he agreed that officers had to do with following prosecution in August 2023.
“During July and August 2023, the World Cup world cup played,” said the defense lawyer.
PC Lovell replied: “If you say that, yes.”
Mrs Forbes said, “Mrs Kerr played for her country” and “she would have been completely on TV – do you remember that you saw her?”
The officer denied seeing the striker on TV before the lawyer said: “This person who gave you an important feeling”.
She added: “You were determined to pursue this person, right?”
PC Lovell said “yes” and Mrs. Forbes asked “via the criminal courts?”
The officer said again “yes”.
Mrs Forbes noted that the CPS originally did not find any evidence of intimidation or alarm caused by Kerr's comments, and suggested that the second statement by PC Lovell described their effect “purely to get a criminal indictment over the line”.
During re -examination by public prosecutor Bill Emlyn Jones KC, PC Lovell told the jury that the “f ****** stupid” small and upset “had made him feel.
Asked how it felt that it was called “f ****** stupid and white”, he said “it felt very unnecessary”.
Jones asked if his race “had some relevance as far as you can see what was going on”, and PC Lovell said “no” and later added that the reference to him was white “Making me up, I think”.
The public prosecutor asked: “Is that correct, PC Lovell, that you just made up something to get a load over the line?”, And he replied: “No, I didn't make it up for a load about it to get the line “
The process continues.
