Michael Oliver is not allowed to get Arsenal games through his referee bosses.
Sunsport Whistler, ex-Prem ref Mark Halsey, says that common sense is to keep Oliver away from Gunners games for a while after he and his family had received the protection of the police from the back of death threats.
Police officers did checks at Oliver's family house 24 hours a day after he was the subject of sick abuse because of the controversial red card for Myles Lewis-Skelly in Arsenal's victory at Wolves, which has now been destroyed.
The PGMOL protocol means that Oliver will probably take the lead over an arsenal game in the coming weeks.
Halsey said: “The pgmol will keep him away from Arsenal for a while, which is the right thing to do.
“If there is friction between a ref and a club that is the right thing to do, why create a problem for yourself.
“Taking him away from Arsenal is not derogatory for Michael and his assets. It is common sense.”
Oliver's integrity was also seriously examined after the incident.
Halsey added: “That is not possible, you cannot question the integrity of a referee.
“The referee goes outside and referee is what stands for him.
“There are millions of people who keep an eye on him, he also has an evaluation of his game. You can't prescribe anything.”
Halsey also believes that there should be more protection for senior officials, where their hectic schedule adds further tension.
Oliver is again in action that takes the lead over Barcelona v Atalanta in the Champions League tomorrow and will be in Portman Road on Saturday for Ipswich against Southampton.
He has also been appointed to officially officize the Merseyside Derby in Goodison Park on 12 February – another high -profile game – and will probably get a FA Cup match of the fourth round next weekend.
Former ref Mark Halsey said: “Michael is by far our best referee.
“He's reef in, week out. Maybe PGMOL will not take care of him.
“Players lose shape and have indifferent versions, it is the same with referees. They are out every week and are also used in the Var -Hub.
“There must be accountability when they deliver poor performance. I do not blame the referees, it is the leadership and the direction that comes from PGMOL management.
“Howard Webb has not received the right staff among him in coaching conditions.”
Halsey himself has been the subject of death threats after a Liverpool vs Manchester United game in 2012, as a result of which he feared for his safety.
He said: “I've been there and experienced it. You are afraid of your safety, but luckily nothing happened for me.
“I had just returned from cancer, my wife had leukemia and they wanted us to both die, they wanted my illness to come back.
“They wanted to do terrible things.
“I received a letter in the post stating that a bullet is waiting for you.
“You expect abuse from fans on the terraces, you are a uniform.
'Because you are the referee, they have the feeling that they have the right to try you. You must have mental resilience to survive.
“I recommend him to go back, Michael is mentally tough and a strong character. Michael always does the best games because he is familiar with management.”
