UFC Vegas 109 may not have the same bet as UFC 319, but there were still some big wins and losses.
9 August saw another trip to the UFC Apex for a last stop for Chicago.
A middleweight candidate who confirms that he will be present for UFC 319 has concluded a statement performance in the main event.
With four version of the night bonuses that were handed out, there were also some very impressive finishes in Las Vegas, with a SLAM Ko that attracted the attention of Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson.
Now that the Apex door is closed, with various large events that have been planned all over the world in the coming weeks, it is time to look back at the biggest winners and losers of last night's action.
Winners: Anthony Hernandez
It is not surprising that the first place to start is with Anthony Hernandez who extended his winning series to eight by beating Roman Doldize.
The 185-pound competition has recently been called the 'middleweight Merab' and although there is certainly only one 'fluffy', the comparisons sounded on Saturday evening.
If Hernandez had the hope of beating several other names to the next title shot, he needed a statement performance and that is exactly what he has delivered.
The most important thing is that his stifling representation of ruthless pressure was concluded with a violent entry, giving him a peak that will certainly help his business to face the winner of the Main Event of UFC 319.
Losers: Gilbert Urbina
UFC Vegas 109 marked the return from Gilbert Urbina to the Octagon after a year and a half since his last outing, where he was stopped in the first round by Charles Radtke.
His first fight of 2025 could not have started better because he dropped Uros Medic in the first 10 seconds of the fight.
After he was unable to follow a little too important to try to get rid of medicine, his opponent began to shoot back, before landing a huge left hand who ended the fight just beyond the minute.
With the UFC record of Urbina that is now on 1-3, with long periods of inactivity, his future in the promotion does not look too positive.
Winners: Elia Smith
Right next to Anthony Hernandez, the biggest conversation point of UFC Vegas 109 was the stunning Slam Knock -out of Elia Smith about Toshiomi Kazama.
In just 22 years old, 'Swift' is an exciting talent, but after producing a peak that many people see, it brings its stock to a whole new level.
Losers: Angela Hill
On paper, a unanimous loss of decision for Iasmin Lucindo is not really a setback for Angela Hill, who has alternated profit and losses during her UFC career.
Lucindo still seems to be an exciting talent in this division, so this can even be a defeat that gracefully aged in the coming years, but there is still a worrying outcome.
With all 15 of her defeats within the Octagon, Hill is now joint with two other hunters for most losses in UFC history.
Only four hunters – Jim Miller, Andrei Arlovski, Clay Guida and Jeremy Stephens – had more setbacks during their UFC career, and although they all achieved an incredible longness in a career, it is not a record with which you would be associed.
Winners: Steve Erceg
There were big bets for Steve Erceg for UFC 309 and although he did not blown the roof off the top, he got the victory he needed so badly.
The former flight weight Challenger title defeated Ode Osbourne through a unanimous decision and had to fight against some adversity to do it after being injured in the first round.
Erceg did not show that he is ready to immediately go to the top of the division, but while he told the Bloody Elleboog for the fight, the goal was the goal in the necessary way.
Losers: eryk differently
Apart from a victory over Chris Weidman in December, Eryk otherwise had the opportunity to put together three consecutive victories over UFC Vegas 109.
He was stopped in the first round after a ruthless rotating elbow by Christian Leroy Duncan, who has taken up his greatest victory in the Octagon so far.
The disturbing aspect for otherwise is that he has only been stopped twice by strikes, with his other TKO Demies who came in his fight with Thiago Santos when he was unable to reach his corner at the end of the third round.
His opponent was always able to catch him with something he did not see coming, but if you consider the levels of sustainability that we have seen in the past of Anders, this was a big setback.
Winners: Joselyne Edwards
Joselyne Edwards still produced an impressive finish at UFC Vegas 109 and became the first opponent of KO the remarkably sturdy Priscila Cachoeira.
Her UFC career started with eight consecutive decisions, but suddenly the 29-year-old has emerged as a dangerous Finisher.
She is now bound because she has the 4th longest active finishing streak of every hunter on the Roster.
