Real Madrid will look to destroy a 3-0 deficit while taking on Arsenal in the second stage of their quarterfinals of the Champions League with Mikel Arteta who encourages his stars to write history
Mikel Arteta has told his players to be 'brave' and to write their names in the history of the Champions League. Arteta insisted that Arsenal was ready for the challenge and laughed from Carlo Ancelotti's warning that Real Madrid received the “Heart and Balls” to overcome a 3-0 defeat of the first leg.
When asked whether Arsenal will be better in both departments, Arteta said: “Yes, there are three main aspects in the game. There is the physical aspect, the technical and tactical aspect and the emotional aspect.
“That emotional aspect is very important because I have a lot of reassurance for what the team has done all season, in a positive context and in a very difficult context, of which I think it is probably the path and why those things happen.
“So to prepare for a quarterfinals like this and to be convinced that we can handle every situation and we will enjoy playing every kind of game that we have to be thrown tomorrow. We must now prove it in this context. And that is its beauty.
“That is the challenge and that is the great thing about sport. That we have shown that we can do it, that must give us reassurance and confidence that we can do it.
“And now, let's get it on the field and do it on the field. It's all that matters. We are here to win it, we have to dominate and give ourselves the best chance of winning and that is our mentality. I understand the mindset of Real Madrid and they have the history but we will be ready.”
Arteta says that Arsenal will win and have no thoughts to protect their lead – and said his players have the challenge. Arteta added: “I think it is excitement. If we are talking about making that, see how small is the history. We have never won the competition and we are now trying to do something where we can start dominating the European competition.
“We have to earn the right thing tomorrow to do that. This is a big stage, it will be no better than this and I think it is a great opportunity for the team to do it. I want us to be brave, self -confident and if you want to write a story, we have to build a story and then write a new history by often doing it.”
Real Madrid -Baas Carlo Ancelotti is under enormous pressure on the Bernabeu and Exit to Arsenal would get even more on his shoulders.
