Milan 3-0 Empoli: Reijnders at the double in routine Serie A win

Thanks to a double from Tijjani Reijnders and a goal from Alvaro Morata, Milan recorded a comfortable 3-0 victory over Empoli on Saturday in the foggy San Siro.

Milan, who defeated Slovan Bratislava in the Champions League in midweek, had drawn their previous two games in Serie A.

But Paulo Fonseca's side returned to victory without much fuss, with Empoli failing to get a single shot on target.

Morata put Milan ahead in the 19th minute, scoring with a first-time touch into the left post after the Spanish striker had landed a rebound.

Reijnders doubled Milan's lead just before half-time with a brilliant half-volley before making it 3-0 in the second half, sending home a sharp, low finish from outside the box.

Milan is seventh in the standings with 22 points, seven points less than leader Napoli, who visit eleventh-placed Torino on Sunday.

Data Debrief: Milan's vicious defence

Fonseca was criticized for Milan's sloppy defending during the 3-2 Champions League win in midweek, and his criticism prompted a response from his team this time.

Empoli had nine shots but finished with just 0.6 expected goals, while Milan – who scored 2.2 xG the other way – kept a clean sheet for the fifth time in their last seven home games in the competition.

The standout Reijnders was decisive, as he scored his first double in a match in the top 10 of Europe since scoring twice for AZ against Vitesse in May 2022.
