Milan aggression key to Lecce turnaround, says Conceicao

Sergio Conukicao has credited the new aggression of AC Milan after they had recovered from two goals to achieve a much needed 3-2 victory over Lecce in Serie A on Saturday.

Milan went to relegation candidates 2-0 in the first hour, but gathered late in the game by a Christian Pulisian brace and his own goal from Antonino Gallo.

The victory was the 1,500th of the Rossoneri in the Serie A, making them the third team to reach that figure after Juventus (1,706) and Inter (1,590).

It also brought them in three points of the top six, ending a point of three straight defeats in all competitions.

“We had a little more time during the week to prepare for the game, we knew Lecce's strengths and weaknesses,” Confeicao told Dazn.

“We had rejected two goals, in the second half we did not enter the way we wanted and they scored the second goal.

“It seemed difficult to turn it around, then our character came out. I put on attacking players and in the end it went well. I have to compliment the team for how they worked during the week with the right attitude I really enjoyed.”

Milan's losing run had an elimination of Champions League in the hands of Feyenoord, but Conceicao believes that their European exit has allowed them at least more time to work on the training ground.

“I like to work on the field,” Conceicao added. “Today was the aggression and we wanted to be higher.

“I am not at all happy to be eliminated from the Champions League, but now we have more time. The boys have character and you could see it in the competition today.”

Pulisic returned to scoring after more than a month without a goal, and he now has 34 targets for the Serie A since he at the beginning of 2023-24 (20 goals, 14 assists)-more than any other Milan player.

“From the wing he feels very comfortable in the central corridor, then it depends on the game,” said Conceicao of the United States International.

“Today he started on the left, he is a player with great technical qualities and very intelligent. He can play behind the striker or on the wings, but coming in is his best position.”

In his second season in Milan, Pulisic has scored eight competition goals so far, four shy of his count of 2023-24.

“It is a very difficult moment for us, and this was a very important victory,” said Pulisic. “But we are a very united group, we have demonstrated it with this very important victory.”
