Milan captain Calabria hits out at questions over his commitment

Milan captain Davide Calabria has criticized the criticism he has received since coach Paulo Fonseca questioned the efforts of some of his players.

Fonseca was unimpressed by the performances of some of his players during Milan's 2-1 win over Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Milan's coach did not name these players, but some supporters still sent Calabria into a frenzy.

In a social media post on Friday, Calabria fired back at his critics.

“There has been a lot of misinformation circulating about me and our team over the past few days,” he posted on his Instagram Story.

'Fake news that deserves no weight.

“They only cause confusion and division. I ask for respect for me, for our work and for the club we represent.”

Calabria have struggled with several injuries since last year and have played just four league games this season due to adductor and calf problems.

“Our focus remains on the pitch, where we work to improve every day with the utmost professionalism,” the 28-year-old added.

Milan, seventh in Serie A, hosts Genoa on Sunday.
