Milner and his wife show off matching ripped physiques on beach in Barbados

James Milner has set the Caribbean to relax after a challenging season for Brighton with the end of their Premier League campaign.

The 39-year-old former Liverpool star was sidelined for the most part of the period under the new manager Fabian Hurzeler, after he had injured himself in just the third game of the season when the Seagulls met Arsenal.

After having undergone a knee construction, Milner had focused on a return to action in December.

But a freak copy of damage to a nerve tendon reset his progress, with the midfielder made his first performance since August in the last game of the season against Tottenham.

Milner liked to put the 2024/25 term behind him behind him while he hit the sun with his wife Amy Fletcher.

The couple looked in a similar tip top condition when they enjoyed the tropical climates of Barbados on Wednesday.

Reflecting on his injury this week, Milner admitted that his condition convinced him that he could continue to play in his forty.

“I couldn't lift my foot or toes, not an ideal scenario,” said the 39-year-old of nerve damage. “I didn't know if I could walk well again, let alone play football.

“There was a chance that I might not have come back at all. Nobody said stop. But with my age it was very unlikely that I would come back. I think that was one of the things that drove me the most. My first goal was to try to get the knee as strong as possible what I did.

“It has been a long, heavy road,” he went on. “I don't think many of this would have come back. The medical staff has been incredible.

'We have worked hard and luckily it has paid off. I just don't have time with the season. If the season was next week, I would be fit. '

Milner made his Premier League debut for Leeds at the age of 16 and won the title with both Manchester City and Liverpool.

He lifted the FA Cup and League Cup with both clubs and the Champions League with Liverpool in 2019, and has earned 61 England caps from 2009-16, but Milner believes that his journey is not nearly over yet.

“I would like to keep playing,” said Milner, who will be 40 in January. 'I now look at my fitness and I feel good. I will certainly have another year left in me.

'We are in conversation with the club and quite close, so it will be nice to be here and be part of the team and help the boys. Hopefully I can be part of it. '
