MLS punishes Messi, Suarez and Alba confrontations

The Trio Inter Miami certainly looks fired, but she cost them their bad discipline early in the season.

In many ways, the 2024 ml campaign was a successful for Inter Miami. In the first full season with Lionel Messi and the ex-Barcelona super stars in the team, the Herons stormed the to supporters' Shield title and broke the MLS point record of one season.

However, the season came to a halt in the late season with a shock round loss for Atlanta United. Now the experienced stars see ready for the fight in 2025.

This week, Jordi Alba became the newest who received a strict one from the competition, with a fine for violating the “hands of the competition” hands for the face/head/neck of an opponent policy “in last weekend's victory at Houston Dynamo. Alba was trapped with a Late Tackel in the dying minutes of the game and the game.

He is the last to be punished for that exact infringement after Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez did the same last week. They both received a fine for their role in confrontations in Miami's opening day Dray with New York City FC.

Although they exceed the line, the lasting competitive instinct of Messi, Suarez and Alba will have some positive points for head coach Javier Mascherano prior to a busy calendar of 2025. The top objective for the herons is undoubtedly MLS Cup, but there is much more on the agenda.

Inter Miami will be one of the two MLS representatives at the World Cup 2025 Club on home floor, while they will also be introduced in the League Cup. It was that MLS Liga MX competition in which Messi made his debut for the herons and led them to victory within his first few weeks with the team.
