Mo Salah admits he WAS willing to leave Liverpool before signing new contract

The Egypt International had been associated with a relocation from Anfield for a large part of the season before he finally put the pen on paper on a new deal last month

Mohamed Salah has frankly admitted that he was ready to leave Liverpool. Anfield's Egyptian king signed a new two -year agreement last month to keep him on Merseyside until 2025, but had confronted with the very real prospect of leaving the club

Salah has had an excellent season, with 33 goals and 23 assists apart into all 49 trips in all competitions, so that Liverpool's charge was fueled for their 20th top win of the title, which they achieved comfortably with four more games.

That form has led to Salah being crowned FWA footballer of the year for the third time for the third time – while Salah is on track to take the Premier League Golden Boot home. He is also a leader for the Ballon d'Or.

Now, at the age of 32, the wing player, who was still pulling amorous looks of the Saudi -Pro League, slightly thrown in his way of thinking during the vast negotiations -and whether he was willing to run away from the Reds as a deal could not be reached.

“It was a possibility, yes,” Salah shared. “It was actually a bit strange, we went really strong this season, and there was this negotiation that was not easy.

“In the end it's all good that ends well: we are champions and I will stay two more seasons.

“I think it was a huge advantage in the end because I had the best statistical season of my life. The possibility that it would be my last season here might give me the desire to make the best of it and to give everything I had to win the title I promised.

“I had this mentality: if the club does not want to expand my contract, don't worry, let's finish it as well as possible so that I can leave with a bang.”

Liverpool is 15 points ahead of the second place Arsenal with three more games left and welcomes the Gunners on Sunday afternoon in Anfield. Salah had started the season by explaining that the Premier League was his priority.

“I even said it was my main goal,” he said. “This is the first time in my career that I have placed the championship above the Champions League.

“It was such a heartache not to be able to celebrate with our fans in 2020, because of the pandemic, which I absolutely wanted, together with the whole team, to offer this to our fans and the city. Nine months later the promise kept.”
