Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are both expected to extend their stay at Liverpool for another two years, according to reports.
The duo have been the pillar of success at Anfield and continue to be an integral part of the Reds' top flight in the Premier League. Salah in particular has been in scintillating form, but his form has come amid the uncertainty surrounding some of their biggest names.
Van Dijk, Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all out of contract this summer, leaving them free to negotiate with other clubs from January. However, Liverpool have taken steps to get rid of that possibility, with David Ornstein reporting that both Van Dijk and Salah will eventually agree new two-year contracts.
Agreements have yet to be reached, but dialogue between the two sides continues as the financial aspects of the deals have yet to be ironed out with no announcement imminent.
The news comes despite Salah continually suggesting he was heading for the exit door. The Egyptian is now in his 30s but is still at the peak of his powers and scored in his latest win over West Ham, admitting there was still a long way to go.
Asked about his future, Salah admitted: “No, we are still a long way from that [contract] and I don't want to put anything in the media. All I think about is that I want Liverpool to win the league and I want to be part of that. I will do my best to help the team win the trophy. There are a few other teams that are overtaking us and we have to stay focused and humble and go again.”
Van Dijk has been less vocal about his future and, of Liverpool's three big names, has always been the one most likely to stay with minimal fuss.
Liverpool's focus is likely to shift to Alexander-Arnold if they sign Salah and their Dutch centre-back. The right-back has gone from youth to the first team and won every honor possible at Anfield as Real Madrid circled the Englishman.
Alexander-Arnold has performed excellently for the Reds but could be looking for a new challenge outside the Premier League. He is a close friend of Real star Jude Bellingham and reports in Spain claim a deal is already being prepared to secure the Liverpool man.
