Liverpool star Mo Salah has reignited his war of words with Jamie Carragher by claiming the Anfield legend is becoming 'obsessed' with him over his contract saga.
Salah, 32, is out of contract at the end of this season and no new contract is in sight, it has been confirmed. The Egyptian is in the form of his life and scored his 21st goal of the season in the dramatic 2-2 draw against Manchester United on Sunday.
But Salah is not the only high-profile Liverpool player facing an uncertain future. Teammates Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold have also entered the final six months of their respective contracts.
Salah has repeatedly spoken publicly about his future, something Carragher has criticized him for, leading to a war of words. The former Liverpool defender also believes Real Madrid's New Year's Eve bid for Alexander-Arnold came after the players' camp gave them the green light.
Before appearing on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football, Carragher suggested Salah and Alexander-Arnold should take a leaf out of Van Dijk's book and be 'statesman-like'. Salah responded by writing on X, formerly Twitter, “I'm starting to think you're obsessed with me,” alongside a winking emoji.
Carragher quickly replied to Salah and tried to defuse tensions by joking: “I've always been obsessed with you. Hopefully that obsession will continue next season.”
The Reds icon made his comments after Salah posted a telling image from Sunday's match. The photo showed only three Liverpool players: himself, Alexander-Arnold and Van Dijk. “You know what I would say? I would say that Virgil van Dijk has come out of this whole situation this season as captain of the club with a higher profile,” Carragher began.
“The way he behaved, his performance on the pitch, the way he led the team, the way he was yesterday, and he's not involved too much in this.
“It's obviously a very important time for all three players, we know that, but I think instead of talking about Trent Alexander-Arnold or Mo Salah, I probably want to pay tribute to Virgil van Dijk. I think he comes across as a true statesman, because of the way he deals with it.
“He's been asked questions, he's thrown it away, he's here to win the league, he wants to do his very best for Liverpool and fingers crossed he signs. I think the other two might go to Virgil van Dijk look and be able to take a leaf out.” of his book.”
