Earlier this month, when Monaco ended a deal to sign Ansu Fati on loan -and so he might not be the only Barcelona player who joins the Ligue 1 -side during the summer transfer window.
Fati is one of the many players who identified Barcelona as candidates to leave the club before the end of the summer. Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Andreas Christensen, Pablo Torre and Pau Victor also have opportunities to leave, and among those options the goalkeeper would be the ideal departure.
Earlier this week, Hansi Flick told Ter Stegen that he would not be the starting goalkeeper of Barcelona for the coming season – he will be third in the pecking order, behind Joan Garcia and Wojciech Szczesny. And given his high salary, his output would be a major help with the efforts of the Catalans to improve their financial misery.
The moment he is told that he is not calculated for next season, Ter Stegen started to attract clubs throughout Europe. Galatasaray wants to sign him and MD has now reported that Monaco would also like to bring him in.
A few weeks ago, Monaco approached Ter Stegen's camp to show their interest in signing him, but on that occasion they were rejected. However, they still want to secure his signature, and there may be a better chance to convince the 33-year-old now that he has been told that Barcelona is not counting on him.
It will be very interesting to see how Ter Stegen's situation is going on in the coming six weeks. He still believes that he can be the starting goalkeeper of Barcelona for next season, but it is very unlikely that his goal will be achieved. And with the World Cup that takes place next summer, he has to play to guarantee his starting place for Germany.
