‘More recognition abroad than in my country’ – Deschamps on post-France career

A long chapter will close in the summer of 2026, while the Stint of Didier Deschamps when France comes to an end. Deschamps has led Les Bleus since 2012, but the FIFA World Cup from 2026 will be its last in the hot chair.

At the beginning of January, Deschamps announced that he would leave his position as manager of the national team. By the time he leaves, he will have been working for 14 years. He has already won the World Cup and he will be looking for another in North America next summer.

However, the Frenchman states that when he leaves the national team of France, his time as a manager will not be over. Deschamps has already said that he does not see himself managing himself from another national team, but has been called up to club management, while in particular he opens the door to moving abroad, where he believes that his work with Les Bleus is more “recognized”.

“It is actually … there is more recognition abroad than in my own country. In terms of my future I don't close a door – in France or abroad. I have the freedom to choose and I know it will be different (to manage France) but also very well,” he said Le Figaro.

Deschamps has previously had spells that manage such as Monaco, Juventus and Olympique de Marseille. He managed the last just before he took the job in France.
