After losing the Copa del Rey -Final, Real Madrid is on track to end the season with a large trophy – and things are not getting better for Carlo Ancelotti, who looks like to be removed from his position as a manager when the domestic campaign ends in May.
Disappointment in the Copa del Rey and Champions League means that Real Madrid only left La Liga to fight for, but given that they are going to follow Barcelona with four points with five more games, it is difficult for them to retain the title they won in 2023-24. And it will be difficult because Antonio Rudiger will no longer play this season after a ban of six games before his eruption during Saturday's defeat against Barcelona.
And now Real Madrid will be the rest of the season without the services of another important defender. Ferland Mendy was forced in the early stages of the final on Saturday after stopping, and the club confirmed that he has suffered a break from the proximal tendon of the front rectus in the right quadriceps.
Ancelotti took the risk of starting Mendy on Saturday after he returned to the training just a few days earlier, and it was one that was certainly not fruit. According to Diario AS, it is expected that the French International will be out for the next 10-12 weeks, which means that he would not be available for this summer's club in the United States.
Mendy has had a difficult season, with this last injury his fourth since August his fourth. He will now try to return on time for the start of the 2025-26 campaign, and in the meantime Real Madrid Fran Garcia and David Alaba will have left back options for their upcoming luminaires, including another El Clasico confrontation against Barcelona.
