Morgan Rogers has given Aston Villa a considerable injury boost and hopes to be available for the Premier League opener against Newcastle on August 16.
The attacker, one of the best players in Villa in the past term, gave Boss Unai Emery a huge fear when he was limping Wednesday's 4-0 win over Roma from Wednesday.
Daily Mail Sport understands that Rogers, who has a painful ankle, is unlikely in the friendly matches against Marseille on August 9 or Villarreal on August 10.
But Emery and his coaching team have not yet registered him from the meeting with Eddie Howe's team in Villa Park.
In the meantime, Lucas Digne has become the newest player who signs a new deal with Villa – who confirms the exclusive story of Daily Mail Sport from July 24 that the French International would extend his stay.
His new contract runs until 2028.
Villa also hopes to complete new deals for Rogers and skipper John McGinn, despite interest in the midfielder from Everton and Newcastle.
Emery's villa has had a mixed preseason in terms of results.
They started by losing Walsall and Hansa, but have since been undefeated in their next four games.
The thrashing of Roma on Wednesday followed a 2-1 victory over St Louis and a few 2-2 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt and Nashville.
