Mourinho closes in on signing PL defender as ex-Barca star arriving for medical

Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce is about to sign a Premier League star.

The Turkish outfit announced on Wednesday that Nelson Semedo 'has arrived in Istanbul to promote his transfer negotiations with our club and to undergo a medical examination'.

Semedo is now a free agent after his contract with Wolves had passed and he confirmed his departure earlier in the day through an emotional post on social media.

The full-back joined the club on a free transfer from Barcelona in 2020 and started making 182 performances, scored three goals and providing 11 assists.

“I want to start thanking every person I worked during my five-year trip here at Wolves,” said the 31-year-old in his Instagram post.

'Never in my wildest dreams I could have imagined that he had established this great club and it was such an honor.

'I have always tried to give the best of me to make our collective better. I hope I didn't disappoint you and that I leave the club in a better place.

'Jeff, I want to thank you for the confidence that I can represent and lead this great club.

'To my teammates and staff, past and present, thank you for making me a better version of myself and for all the memories we have shared together. Know that forever you have a friend who you can count on.

'For our fans I will never forget it when I heard you singing my song on that train for the first time. Thank you for embracing me and made me one of your own, for the atmospheres you made and for always supporting me, even if the times were bad.

'It's time for me to start a new chapter. I wish you all the best and I will always cheer for you as a supporter now.

“Wolves ay we – I'm looking forward to seeing you again one day.”

Semedo is a crucial player for Wolves among a series of managers, including Nuno Espirito Santo, Bruno Lage and Gary O'Neil.
