Moyes revels in the Merseyside derby “mayhem” as draw keeps “title race alive”

Everton boss David Moyes enjoyed the “Mayhem” of the Merseyside Derby while the dramatic draw “keeps the title race alive” according to Tim Sherwood.

James Tarkowski ensured that it was a memorable last Merseyside Derby in Goodison Park, when Everton earned a 2-2 draw with Liverpool in the 98th minute.

It led to chaotic scenes when fans came to the field and after the last whistle, Liverpool -head coach Arne Slot and his assistant Sipke Hulshoff were sent away for confronting referee Michael Oliver with Curtis Jones and Abdoulaye Doucoure also rejected after the visiting visiting visits. Proponents with a bottle that is apparently thrown out of the crowd.

“It was Mayhem All Game, an old -fashioned Throwback,” said Moyes.

“The piece after the game, not really what we should talk about. Doucoure got a yellow that led to a red that I am disappointed about because we have a shortage of players.

“The place cooked warm all night.”

He added: “This has never been an easy terrain to come and play. But it has always been a great ground if you get the crowd behind you.

“Perhaps there has been a bit where the crowd and players were not completely linked during the recent periods. Partly because of the difficult times they have had. It was difficult for supporters.

“But I think I now think players and supporters are starting to come together again. The crowd tonight was beautiful.”

Liverpool seemed to have been on the road to attach their position to the top of the Premier League after the 73rd minute goal of Mohamed Salah seemed to have demanded that it was the 120th and last derby here.

The Thunderbolt from Tarkowski, however, meant that the gap to Arsenal is secondly seven points instead of nine – a gap that Sky Sports' Sherwood believes keeps the title race alive.

He said: “It keeps it open in my opinion. Seven points.

“It is still a big gap, of course it is. But nine would have been too much. Seven keep it alive.

“Not only do they celebrate tonight in the blue half of Merseyside, Liverpool will have the feeling that it is a defeat because it came so late in the day.”

Slot, his assistant and Jones opposite forbidden after merseyside melee

Slot, his assistant Hulshoff and midfielder Jones are confronted with suspensions after they have shown red cards.

Jones ran over and grabbed Everton's Doucoure after the midfielder of Toffees started celebrating their latest gasp draw for the traveling Liverpool fans, which caused a confrontation in which many players were involved.

Both Jones and Doucoure received second yellow cards and then red cards from referee Michael Oliver.

Slot was seen with Oliver shaking and saying something to the civil servant before he also received a red card, where the Premier League later confirmed that Hulshoff was also shown a straight red.

Jones will be confronted with a ban on one game, while Slot and Hulshoff will probably get the touchline bans.

Slot and Hulshoff were prevented from speaking against the media in the aftermath because of a Premier League rule.

Van Dijk: This is Everton's Cup final

Virgil van Dijk from Liverpool said it was “disappointing” to give the late goal in the 2-2 draw.

It feels like a loss: “Yes and no. It was more than extra time. I think the referee today had a major role in the game in terms of certain challenges such as an error and similar is not. It is disappointing. Great strike – but very disappointing “

What did Everton do well? “The same things they always do – very directly and fight for the second and third ball. This is their cup final and will try to make it difficult.

“We saw it last season how difficult they made it and this year they finally scored – a boost for them, a blow to us.”
