Man United have identified a potential long-term suitor from Girona to solve their ongoing problems at the left-back position, according to a report.
Injury-prone Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw recently returned to Ruben Amorim's squad after both missing hundreds of days of action, but the Red Devils are looking at a more sustainable option.
The 23-year-old's contract contains a £29m release clause, meaning Girona would be obliged to accept any offer matching this price.
After internal discussions with the club, Ruben Amorim has approved the decision to approach Miguel Gutierrez, according to Estadio Deportivo.
The Spaniard was previously scouted by United, with club staff attending a number of Gutierrez's appearances in early 2024.
The Red Devils were reportedly impressed by his football intelligence and attacking talent.
However, Gutierrez's contract also includes a clause stating that Real Madrid is entitled to 50 percent of any transfer fee if he were to leave Girona.
A member of their academy since 2011, he left Los Blancos in 2022 for just £3 million, with Real Madrid retaining 50 percent of his rights and the aforementioned sell-on clause.
And with recent rumors suggesting that Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies is likely to extend his contract in Germany next year, Gutierrez would be a cost-effective Plan B signing for Madrid.
Mail Sport previously reported that crosstown rivals Man City were also monitoring Gutierrez.
Should United want to take on their derby rivals, negotiations could be trickier as Girona and City share the same City Group ownership.
As it stands, however, there are no new reports suggesting City have a renewed interest in the defender.
