MU ‘set for transfer windfall as former star closes in on £43m move to Madrid’

Real Madrid is said to be closer to a deal for a deal for former man United, Alvaro Carreras has left in a movement that could bring welcome financial benefits for the Red Devils.

Carreras, 22, who was previously known as Fernandez, came through the youth ranks in Real before he moved to Old Trafford as a 17-year-old in 2020.

The Spaniard did not come in to appear for United, but spent time in Loan in Preston, Granada and Benfica.

Eventually he came to Benfica in a permanent transfer in the summer of 2024 due to a fee of up to € 9 million (£ 7.8 million).

The 22-year-old excelled in Portugal and played 68 times for Benfica, and he then attracted the importance of various major European clubs, including his former side Real.

And according to Fabrizio Romano, Carreras is approaching a return to the Bernabeu after an agreement of € 50 million (£ 43 million) with Benfica.

The report claims that in addition to the fixed fee, a deal for the real younger Rafael Obrador to go in the opposite direction for € 5 million (£ 4.3 million), has been agreed.

Obrador, 21, is also back left and he has played 68 times for Real Madrid Castilla, the Spanish Team of the Spanish Giants.

If a move is completed, this would bring good news for United, with the Red Devils inserting a 20 percent clause on the 20 percent clause for any transfer costs above £ 5 million when he came to Benfica.

And for € 50 million (£ 43 million) this means that Ruben Amorim's side would be € 10 million (£ 8.6 million) in a welcome boost for the Portuguese, because he wants to reform his team after a gloomy 2024-25 campaign.

In the meantime, Left Back has been seen as a priority position this summer, given the injuries of Ferland Mendy last season, although Fran Garcia is impressed by the club of Club.

The Spanish Outlet Marca claims that Carreras was the best target of Real and they hoped to close a deal for the World Cup club after fellow defenders Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen both arrived.

However, negotiations were found to be difficult in the first instance, with Benfica completing the entire release clause of € 50 million (£ 43 million) (£ 43 million), but Real wanted to make a deal more around € 40 million (£ 34.5 million).

A compromise was reached with the involvement of a reimbursement of € 5 million (£ 4.3 million) for Obrador, which means that Real effectively pays € 45 million (£ 38.8 million) for the 22-year-old.

Carreras would be desperate to return to Spain and personal conditions with Los Blancos have been easily agreed.

Real President Florentino Perez and his counterpart of Benfica Rui Costa have handled the conversations.

Correras is expected to challenge Garcia for a starting spot, but Real's current left power insisted that he was relaxed when he was asked about his potential new competition at the Club World Cup.

“I try to be calm,” he said. “I am working for myself, for the team, give my best every day that I turn on this shirt and hopefully I can continue to do this for much longer because I feel good.”
