Dustin Jacoby almost lost his toe in a freak accident before scoring the big UFC win
Dustin Jacoby produced a stunning performance on Saturday night at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, USA, finishing his opponent in the third round.
But the fact that he made it to the octagon at all is remarkable considering the gruesome injury he suffered during the run-in.
In an interview with MMA Fighting, he explained: “Three weeks prior to the fight I completely tore my right big toe off my foot. I couldn't run, walk, train, nothing all week.
“I was very nervous that I wouldn't be able to make the walk to the octagon. In over 50 professional fights between MMA and kickboxing, I have never shown up on the day I was supposed to sign the contract.”

This will leave many wondering what exactly the American meant when he said he had 'torn' his toe from his foot. And it's fair to say that his statement is not for the faint of heart.
He admitted: “I grabbed my toe to see how bad it was, and my whole toe just came off my foot. It looked like a door hinge. I panicked and pushed him back and looked around and thought, 'I have to go somewhere now.' Right then and there I think: I'm not fighting. My fight is over. In three weeks I have to fight.”
Fortunately, after a visit to his doctor, he was told it was a dislocation, which was resolved by putting it back in.
Davey Grant almost had his toe amputated prior to UFC Tampa
Oddly enough, it seems like Saturday night's card was plagued with MMA stars nearly losing their toes before the event itself.
Like Jacoby, Davey Grant suffered from worrying medical issues, with the Briton concerned he was at risk of losing the body part.
Regardless, he managed to make it to the fight and win in style.
He has opened up about what happened leading up to his match, admitting that his toe was almost amputated.
