“My knee was in a completely different position” – Barcelona star opens up on horror injury

It has been a great season for Barcelona so far, and it is made more impressive, given that they have been almost the entire campaign without their captain.

In September Marc-Andre ter Stegen suffered a serious knee injury after a freak incident during the 5-1 victory of Barcelona over Villarreal in La Ceramica. The German keeper was immediately confirmed to require surgery, and although he was not expected to play again this season, he could now be back in action in a few weeks after he had recently returned to the training.

Speaking with Bild (via Relevanto), Ter Stegen has now opened that injury, while he brought himself back to that moment in September.

“The first thing I felt was a pull on my thigh. The pain ran through my body. Looking down, I knew immediately that it was not just a thighing problem. My knee was in a completely different position than where it should be, and it was clear that it could not be put in place.”

Van Ter Stegen is expected to keep Wojciech Szczesny on his return before the Start Jersey, and he spoke about when he believes he will be able to make his Barcelona comeback.

“I feel fitter than ever and with a lot of energy. I have a great team around me, I can resist any pressure and I really want to play quickly, without having a specific date. If I can handle the tension and all aspects of training with the team well, I will give the coach a little push so that he knows that I am ready.”

It would be a surprise to see Ter Stegen play again this season, given the form in which Szczesny has been since he has taken the gloves from Inaki Pena. He will also be of the place compared to the post, so it would be very risky for Flick to make a change.
