Myles: Arsenal left-back signs new long-term contract after breakout season

Myles Lewis-Skelly has committed his future to Arsenal by signing a new long-term contract in the Emirates Stadium.

Sky Sports News understands that it is a five-year contract and brings Lewis-Skelly until the summer of 2030.

The 18-year-old Academy product turned out to be a revelation at the left back in the last term after he forced his way in the Mikel Arteta team in December.

In total he made 39 performances and scored his first goal for the club in the 5-1 victory of Arsenal over Manchester City in February. He also became the youngest player who scored on his debut in England when he just found it in their 2-0 win over Albania in March.

Lewis-Skelly came through the youth of Arsenal as a central midfielder, but was converted by Arteta into a left back, which used Riccardo Calafiori and others in the pecking order of the manager.

His versions were recognized with a nomination for the PFA Young Player of the Year Award, with colleague -Academy -graduated Ethan Nwaneri also among the six players on the shortlist.

The agreement on the new contract of Lewis-Skelly follows news about an extension for central defender Gabriel Magalhaes, who was committed until 2029. The club also hopes to bind Nwaneri to a new deal.

Analysis: New Deal deserves richly

Lewis-Skelly's new contract is well deserved after an excellent breakthrough season. His impact was all the more impressive, since he played in a new position. He ended the campaign as the first choice of Arteta, 18 years old, after he had never played there before.

The teenager seems to have the same status for England under Tuchel, who made an impression in the Mars matches against Albania and Latvia, which underlines his talent for seizing his opportunities. Lewis-Skelly has character strength to match his brilliant talent.

He excelled and out of possession for Arsenal, and turned out to be difficult to beat in one -one -one -he was only once in the 1,370 Premier League minute previous term, according to Opta -and consistently pass with precision and goal, even under pressure.

His transient accuracy percentage of 93.55 percent placed him seventh of all Premier League players last season and he ranked strongly in terms of Duel Success.

There were also times of overload, of course, in particular in the form of two red cards, one of which was destroyed, but the value of Lewis-Skelly is clear for his managers and it is easy to understand why. An excellent young talent, his new deal reflects his growing status.
