Nagelsmann to stay on as Germany boss until 2028

Julian Nagelsmann has signed a contract extension to remain in charge of Germany until Euro 2028.

Former Bayern Munich coach Nagelsmann took over on a two-and-a-half-year deal in September 2023, following the sacking of Hansi Flick.

He made a positive impact before Euro 2024, which Germany hosted.

Nagelsmann's team, including young stars Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz, reached the quarter-finals on home soil. They were eliminated by eventual champions Spain after a 2–1 extra-time defeat.

Their run to the last eight was their best at a major tournament since Euro 2016, when they reached the semi-finals.

Although he was initially expected to remain single until just after the 2026 World Cup, Nagelsmann will now be in charge of the national team for another two years.

“When I came to the DFB in September 2023, I could not have imagined being a national coach outside the home Euros,” Nagelsmann said.

“This great feedback that we all receive every day shows us that our journey together is on the right track. We want to win titles together.”

Germany is also one of eight teams to have qualified for this year's Nations League Finals.
