The Belgian international will start next season as part of another club for the first time in ten years while he is preparing for leaving City when his contract ends at the end of this campaign. De Bruyne, now 33 years old, has been a transfer target for various top clubs such as Liverpool and Napoli, but now it seems that his move to the Serie A champions is closer than ever.
The Laurentiis opened the deal that could be announced in the coming days prior to the start of the summer transfer window on 1 June, so De Bruyne would see himself join the former Midfielder of Manchester United Scott McTominay and the Belgian teammate Romelu Lukaku.

Napoli director Giovanni Manna also weighed the deal and implied that fans should prepare for what one of the biggest announcements of the summer could be.
“We have been working on the Kevin De Bruyne deal for months … and we are now about to see the finish line.”
De Bruyne has won 18 trophies with City, including six league titles and a historic Treble in 2023, and received an honorary guard in his last match against Fulham on Sunday afternoon in which he waved an emotional farewell to supporters. Napoli lifted their fourth Serie A title on Friday evening when they brought Inter Milan to the top spot with a 2-0 win over Cagliari, who will only seduce De Bruyne to make the switch to the Italian giants.
