The oldest debutant of Arsenal in more than 110 years made a monumental mistake on Wednesday evening to give Girona a shock in the Champions League.
Neto, who made his first performance for the Gunners at the age of 35 and 194 days, was instead of regular no. 1 David Raya.
But it was a debut to forget when he was completely wrong, just before half an hour.
Neto came out of his goal and was in No-Mans-Land, so he had tried a dive 25 meters from goal.
Finally, former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Arnaut Danjuma came in to give Girona a 1-0 lead.
“Neto, I now understand why this is your first performance for us,” wrote a fan of Arsenal on social media.
“Neto was outside the box and still tried to catch it with his hands,” said another.
Arsenal looked incoherent at the start of this collision in Spain after Baas Mikel Arteta had made seven changes.
Brazilian Shot Stopper Neto received his competitive debut for the club, while the defense was rearranged to include Jakub Kiwior and Thomas Partey, who was deployed right back.
Riccardo Calafiori, who scored the winner at Wolves, and Gabriel completed the defense. Gabriel was inside to make his 200th Gunners appear.
Question marks will be asked why Neto chose to get out of the goal with Danjuma who burst into the open space after the Arsenal attack fell apart.
A simple one by Ball took out three Arsenal players and Danjuma, formerly from AFC Bournemouth and Tottenham, allowed to sneak into Pidey and get a run on goal, made easier by Neto's result decision.
