Neuer hints Bayern contract extension is imminent

Manuel Neuer is set to extend his stay at Bayern Munich to 15 years by signing a new contract with the Bundesliga giants.

Neuer joined Bayern in 2011 and went on to make 541 appearances for the club in all competitions, the eighth most of any player in their illustrious history.

The 2014 World Cup winner has made 357 appearances in the Bundesliga, the seventh most of any goalkeeper, and has kept a record 167 clean sheets.

Neuer's contract at the Allianz Arena expires in June, but after re-establishing himself as Bayern's number one following an injury spell, he will now stay.

“There is nothing official at the moment,” he told Sport1 after Saturday's 1-0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach.

'That's for sure. But when the time comes, you will hear about it, and I would say it will happen soon.”

Neuer's contract extension could impact Alexander Nubel, who impressed on loan at Stuttgart and has long been seen as the likely successor to Bayern's shot-stopper.

He is willing to wait for his chance in Munich, although he understands that he may have to consider a permanent transfer if Neuer continues to play after 2026.

“If Manuel Neuer were to renew now, and I assume he will, we will see if we can get together in 2026, Bayern Munich and I,” Nubel said after Stuttgart won 1-0 against Augsburg on Sunday.

“Or we say that it will be something different. I am not tied to one club. It is just great to play here. I think the whole environment lives for the club, and that is very nice.”
