Neville called out on USA TV by fellow pundit for calling Arsenal ‘big let-down’

Gary Neville was called on the American TV by a fellow expert after labeling the Arsenal versions this season as a 'big disappointment'.

The incident took place while the former Star of Manchester United appeared as an expert on NBC Sports on Saturday before the Gunners match against Brentford, who ended 1-1.

Arteta's side saw that result 13 points behind the Premier League leaders Liverpool after the victory of the Reds op West Ham on Sunday.

Neville said: 'What happened this season is that I think they have deteriorated in terms of their recruitment from the start of the season.

'They never covered themselves for their likely injury to Havertz who was their only center-forward.

Neville's colleague expert Robbie Mustoe answered, however: 'I would not agree that they have fallen back. [Arteta] Get closer, it was just a difficult season with injuries'.

Neville responded in kind by saying that he thought that Arsenal 'always tried to let the hook out'.

He also excluded the performances of skipper Martin Odegaard, who, according to him, had a 'big drop-off' during the 2024-25 campaign.

Neville also expressed his conviction that the Gunners have 'the worst attacking team from the top six'.

Arsenal has been in the attack for large parts of the season with Odegaard, Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus, all on different points against longer periods on the sidelines.

As a result, they have difficulty matching their productive scores speed of 91 goals from last season and so far only to score 57 in 32 league games this period.

Although Liverpool's fate is almost confirmed as Premier League Champions, Arteta knows that all hope is not lost for his players after the 3-0 victory of Arsenal against Real Madrid in the first stage of their quarterfinals of Champions League last Tuesday.

With the return leg that arrives in the Bernabeu on Wednesday, Arteta will try to guide North London to their first semifinal of the European Cup in 15 years.

Neville noted that there was another competition in which Arsenal are serious contenders, Neville admitted: “If they win the Champions League, everything will be forgiven, but otherwise their competition performance has been a big disappointment.”
