Neville lauds Man Utd draw at Liverpool as their ‘best performance’ under Amorim

Gary Neville believes Manchester United's 2-2 draw at Liverpool is their 'best performance' yet under Ruben Amorim.

The Red Devils held the Premier League leaders to a draw with a resolute display at Anfield.

Lisandro Martinez opened the scoring with a thunderbolt seven minutes into the second half, but Liverpool responded shortly afterwards.

Cody Gakpo scored the equalizer before Mohamed Salah put the hosts ahead from the penalty spot after a handball from Matthijs de Ligt.

Amad Diallo made sure the spoils were shared and Marcel praised his former club.

“I think this is the best performance under Ruben Amorim, maybe the whole season,” he told Sky Sports.

'Coming to Anfield, the best team in this year's competition surpasses last week's win over Manchester City. City were in a bad moment and the way the match went they were a bit lucky to get the win.

'I loved United today from minute one. They fully deserved it (the draw).

'We expected the worst. There isn't a Manchester United fan who woke up in the morning and didn't think the worst would happen today.

'I thought (Kobbie) Mainoo, (Manuel) Ugarte and (Bruno Fernandes) controlled the midfield and (Curtis) Gravenberch, Curtis Jones and (Alexis) Mac Allister have been excellent this season, they have overwhelmed teams and I thought they Those three really did well.

Despite the feel-good factor in the immediate aftermath of the match, United remain in the bottom half of the standings, climbing above West Ham into 13th place only on goal difference.

Bruno Fernandes appears to be finally rediscovering his best form under Amorim's guidance but was left frustrated as he demanded United show consistency by repeating the kind of performance that almost saw them claim a late victory against Liverpool.

'We have rightly been criticized, we have lost too many points. Even today we cannot be happy with the draw,” Fernandes said.

'I think it was a very good result, we could have even won the match at the end. It's a fair result. I'm angry because if we show this against Liverpool, why can't we do this every week?

'Finally, I did a decent job overall. We need a lot more of ourselves to get more out of this season.

“It's been here, but it only came to today's game. Now we have an FA Cup match against Arsenal which is going to be very tough again. We want to be in that final again. I will probably be more worried about Southampton after this performance,” he added.
