Gary Neville has launched a new attack on the transfer strategy of Manchester United and admits that they have let go of different players who would perform better than members of their current team
Gary Neville claims that Manchester United players have continued to sell – only to replace them with individuals of a smaller quality. The recruitment of the Red Devils has long been criticized and their former player believes that Danny Welbeck and Anthony Elanga would still do a job.
United is on track for their worst campaign ever Premier League with so many players who cannot deliver. Several are signed for large costs, but in the end not enough.
In the meantime, the club has cashed in players, some of whom were not seen as fashionable names, and they have continued to excel in other outfits. This season, United has lost to Brighton, with Welbeck score, while in midweek Elanga noted the winner when Nottingham Forest took three points against them.
Neville has grown the way in which the club has released quality, especially in the last third part, with the current attacking options of United that are not considered to be the standard.
The Pundit said on Sky Sports: “No Manchester United manager since Sir Alex Ferguson, except Louis van Gaal, has been able to dominate games with possession. That is a real problem. The players are simply not of the quality needed at the club. That really sounds hard but it is the truth.
“It will need smart recruitment, which means that players come out for good prizes and get players in those undervalued – that is what all teams are trying to do in the competition!
“You could make four players who are no longer at Manchester United – Elanga, Rashford, Welbeck and Mctominay behind them – they would do much better than the current players as a four in front. United has let players go – and I don't say they are now the solution. But they have replaced players who are not at that level.”
There are several players who are confronted with uncertain futures in Manchester, despite excelation before their relocations to Old Trafford. There are also people who believe that Rashford and Jadon Sancho can restore their career and be enormous successes if they would continue.
Ruben Amorim has made it clear that he wants to get the most out of the team he has, but accepts that he does not have every player he needs to make his philosophy work.
He said: “I just want to improve my players because there are many qualities and I have to help them get better. But of course I have a way to play that is different from the former coach, so I have to choose a number of characteristics that we don't have in the team.”
