Gary Neville has expressed concern Kobbie Mainoo is now the fourth choice Central Midfield option at Man United, while he admits that the Red Devils still have to enter the transfer market to strengthen the position.
Mainoo, 20, was an unused replacement on Sunday when Man United was held to a 1-1 draw by Fulham in Craven Cottage.
The international of England watched from the couch while Emile Smith Rowe level after Rodrigo Muniz's own goal, with Amorim who turned to defenders Harry Maguire and Ayden Heaven while he pushes on a winner.
It marked the second consecutive match in which the man United Academy product has been an unused replacement.
Former Man United -defender Neville suggested that the Amorim 'has no mainoo', while the center of midfield is emphasized as a problem position that may have to be solved in the transfer market.
“They now have to do a piece of company at the center of midfield,” he said on the podcast of Gary Neville.
'I thought Mainoo could get up and that person could be, but it is quite clear that Ruben Amorim is not currently in him.
“He starts with Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes, he then puts Mason back there and he brings Ugarte for him.
'That tells you that he is actually almost fourth choice.
That means they have to sort something because it becomes a problem.
'The two there are really exposed when the front three are a little higher and the back five are sometimes pushed back a little, those hectares seem to open a bit.
'I think Bruno Fernandes is part of it and he will have to sort it out. I think Man United will have to get a keeper and look at getting a central midfield player. '
So far, Mainoo has only started 15 of Amorim's 44 matches and are the victim of the head coach's preference to combine an attacking midfielder alongside a defensive partner in his system.
Amorim revealed post-match that Mainoo is in competition with the Captain Fernandes of Man United for a place in the starting line-up.
'Mainoo is fighting for his position at Bruno. I have changed two midfielders. I left Mason Mount there because we wanted to score a goal and when I changed, I felt that the team needed a midfielder, “he said.
“So he has to fight for his position at Bruno. He is currently fighting Bruno for the position in training. '
Amorim started on Sunday with Fernandes next to Anchor Casemiro, before he replaced the last by Manuel Ugarte. Mount was also fallen back in the deeper role.
