Neville says Amorim must end ‘negativity spiral’ at club this summer

Gary Neville says that Ruben Amorim has to end the “negativity spiral” in Manchester United and “Get a Grip” of the club after a nightmare season.

United is 16th in the Premier League table and go to their last game from the campaign at home to Aston Villa who runs the last loss from the Europa League to Tottenham on Wednesday to Tottenham on Wednesday.

After that defeat, United Defender Luke Shaw said: “We all have to interrogate. Are we good enough to be here? Because it is not acceptable for this club this season. We know that and it is up to us.”

Neville believes that those comments are an alarming reflection of how the players feel and Amorim must move quickly to correct the culture in the club and the dressing room if he wants to achieve an important improvement next season.

“I want to point out the interview of Luke Shaw, which he spoke about:” We have to look at ourselves in the mirror and decide whether we are good enough to play for Manchester United, “Neville said on the overlap show that it is called football.

“Luke, it's not your job to determine that. A player at Manchester United should not have a control whether they are there or not. The manager of the football club decides whether you are good enough to play in that football team.

“When the players start to come and ask themselves in public if they are good enough to play for the club, you know how bad it is internally. You imagine what they say to each other.

“I have this thing about negativity spiral in my companies, in my life. If I should start moving the energy -different negativity spiral, where you can feel people starting to have an influence on the others, and Luke is now an experienced player, to be honest, I think you should wipe it away.

“There were a few players at that pitch and some players on the couch that I think can still do good work for Manchester United. I don't believe it is a case of removing them all. I think there is some talent. I believe that. And this idea that they don't care, I will never, never, never, never, that of football players.

“Do they want to lose football matches? Do they want to be criticized on social media? The answer is no. They give it up. They have worked for thousands of hours to achieve this position of playing for the club, but the club eats them alive. The club eats them alive, it's too big for them.”

Arteta An example for Amorim

Neville has called on Amorim to take action quickly this summer and to compare the situation with how Mikel Arteta has played a major role in the revision at Arsenal in recent years.

“Someone has to get a grip on that club, and I think it should be the manager. Ruben, you have to get a grip from that club,” said Neville.

“Mikel Arteta did a great job at Arsenal. From the first day he printed his standards at the club, he put the coaching systems in place, there has been completely progress, and he has now had five years under his belt for six years under his belt.

“Ruben Amorim has to look at next season, how he gets into the top six, how he in fact wastes half of that team, how he transforms it into a dynamic team that plays exciting football of the rigid things we are currently watching, and he has to think about which players in that dressing room can do a work for him.

“Because if the players hear their own in that dressing room, you have a huge problem.”
