New Juventus coach Tudor sees scope for improvement after winning start

Juventus may have won Genoa on Saturday, but the new boss Igor Tudor knows that there is a lot of work to do.

Tudor was appointed on Sunday to replace the dismissed Thiago-Motta and his reign started with a 1-0 home success after Juve had fifth placed heavy defeats on Atalanta and Fiorentina.

Kenan Yildiz scored the decisive goal in Allianz Stadium, although Juve created few clear opportunities, as evidenced by an expected target figure of 0.98.

“The first thing to be noted is that we played against a serious team like Genoa. It was a deserved victory,” Tudor told reporters.

“It was important to start with a victory, for everyone. Many players had a good game, this is positive.

“I have noticed that there is a lot of room for improvement, this will make us start the week well, what the first full week will be. We have to work hard.”

Tudor was a popular appointment with supporters who were happy to see a change and even happier that a former Juve player, who spent most of his gaming career at the Turin Club, now has the lead and sang his name before kicking off.

“I heard the chants of the fans and it was emotional,” said Tudor, after he became the first Juve coach who won his first game to have taken over the lead during a season since Ciro Ferrara in 2009.

“But the victory is more beautiful than these emotions. This was important for the fans. It was fun, but I was focused because it was important to start the right way.”

Juve is one point behind Bologna in fourth place while they offer on a Champions League place.

“It was a good cause, one of my best, hopefully I can also score normal goals. We are now happy, we are a good team and have worked hard,” Matchwinner Yildiz told Dazn.

“I thank Motta, we did everything we could with him. The new coach brought new energy.”

Among players, this period have scored at least five goals in Europe Big Five Leagues, only Lamine Yamal (six goals) and Assane Diao (six) are younger than Yildiz (five).
