A new rule that must be implemented will be punished to take their time on the ball.
A new rule in football will be implemented in which a corner is given if the referee regards the goalkeeper as time -wasting while holding the ball.
In Belfast, the 139th annual General Meeting of the International Football Association Board (IFAB) was presented a number of Tweaks to change the way in which the game is played, with the highlight being the new time -wasteing countermap to prevent keepers from hanging on the ball.
A limit of 8 seconds will be given to the Shotstoppers once the ball is in their hands and they are supposed to have had to have “effective possession”; Every time they are seen longer, a corner kick – no indirect free kick – is awarded by the referee.
New rule 'much better' than the current law
At present, Law 12.2 of the game states that keepers have a 6 -second limit with the ball in their hands, but this rule is rarely maintained by civil servants and as such has become an effective way for teams to count the clock when needed.
There are tests in youth competitions throughout Europe, where referees indicate a five -second warning to keepers with an elevated hand; Media Outlet The Athletics reported that “four corners were awarded in the more than 400 games”, but almost all of the visual help was used.
Pierluigi Collina, the chairman of the FIFAs Referees Committee, told reporters in Belfast that the new method was “much better than what we saw in the Serie A and the other major competitions, where keepers can have 20 seconds or more.”
It was also reported that the coming change will come into effect worldwide from the beginning of July, but will be used for this summer's entire World Cup, which will start in Miami on 14 June.
In addition to this groundbreaking change, IFAB has also made it clear that competitions can decide whether the 'only captain' rule is implemented, which states that only the team captain can speak with the referee, and not the rest of the players on the field.
There was also a hint of a change in the offside law, but this was not completely embraced or fear of giving too much benefit to the attacking side. At the time of writing, nothing has been changed with regard to offside in the game.
