Liverpool -star Luis Diaz has been strongly linked to an exit from the club in recent months, with none other than Barcelona mentioned as his favorite destination. The situation arose due to a dead end road in contract negotiations, but it can be a recent shift that conversations are now unblocking.
Diaz came to Liverpool from Porto in January 2022 for € 53 million and helped the Reds to reach the Champions League final in its first season. But at the age of 28 now, and with two more years about the first deal he has signed, he is probably confronted with his last major contract. Liverpool is also confronted with the choice to hand it over to him, or looking for the Colombian star.
If they cannot reach a new deal, it seems more likely that Liverpool would entertain offers for Diaz, not to let his value sink if he reaches the last year of his contract. Reports in his native Colombia have noted that Barcelona would be his favorite destination, and that he would like to be a movement, while Blaugrana director of the football deco apparently sees him the ideal option on the left side of the Barcelona attack.
Nevertheless, Sport explains that Liverpool has received a boost in their hope to keep him. Liverpool recently reached and agreement with Adidas to become their most important kits sponsor of next season, a shift that could influence the negotiations with Diaz. The Colombia International is one of their figureheads in Latin -America and the Catalan daily reference talk in Colombia that this could be the urge to restart the negotiations for Liverpool and Diaz.
Were Diaz to move to Barcelona, Adidas would wear one of their most important star mark names that wear a Nike shirt twice a week. Sponsors can often be influential in transfer processes, with the spell of James Rodriguez in Rayo Vallecano a clear example: the wages of the Colombian were not least financed by specific deals with Colombian brands for the duration in Vallecas.
