Italian football wrote history after the introduction of a new VAR system – only to delete a rule a day later.
In Series C, the third level of football in Italy, a new referee aid system that is known as football video support is being tested.
This enables coaches to challenge decisions by asking a referee to check video images of an incident.
Each coach has two challenges at their disposal – in a similar way as the challenge of a coach in basketball – but will hold their challenge if the referee changes the original decision.
This was first seen in action during the opening weekend collision between Carpi and Juventus Under-23S in Series C Group B on Saturday.
After just taking the lead, Carpi then suddenly found himself up to 10 men in front of a handball against Lorenzo Lombardi, where the defender was handed a second yellow.
Usually VAR reviews only check for important decisions such as a straight red card, goal or fine.
But quickly thinking Carpi coach Stefano Cassani asked for an assessment of the decision to check whether his player earned a straight red card.
And it turned out that Lombardi had taken the ball with his chest and not his hand, and after checking the monitor, the referee made it on the field, Francesco Zago, a complete U-turn over the decision and the second yellow withdrew.
This allowed Lombardi to stay on the field, although Juventus reserves would score an equalizer equalizer.
However, Cassani will be the only manager who can use the rules in favor of his team.
That's because Series C has since beaten this Maas in the law.
After the game, the competition said that managers would no longer be able to call reviews against their own team.
VAR also has a change at the highest level of Italian football, where referees now announced decisions for the crowd in stadiums such as in the Premier League.
