Newcastle join Man Utd in Dominic Calvert-Lewin race with UCL on offer

Manchester United is connected to a relocation for free agent Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Newcastle have now reported conversations with the English international

Newcastle is said to have been introduced to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin, which is available on a free transfer after leaving Everton. Calvert-Lewin spent nine years with Everton, scored 71 goals in 273 games and decided to leave the club this summer after his contract had passed.

Manchester United has been associated with a move for the 28-year-old, but Newcastle has now emerged as a potential destination. Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is a long-term admirer of Calvert-Lewin, where the magpies have previously tried to sign him last summer.

And a new Talksport report claims that Newcastle has held conversations with Calvert-Lewin about making the switch to St James' Park this summer. The report also notes that United's interest in rush hour, while Leeds would have asked but was unable to meet his wage requirements.

Newcastle is on the market for a new goal scorer to offer competition and support to Alexander Isak, after it has been confirmed that Callum Wilson left the club after the expiry of his contract.

Wilson spent five years in Newcastle, scored 47 goals in 113 games and was in conversation about an extension. However, an agreement could not be reached and Wilson announced his departure on Monday.

“Against all your magpies, it's time to say goodbye after an incredible few years,” Wilson said. 'Thank you for everything. Together we have stood strong through the highlights and a few lows to help the club experience new heights.

“I am so proud that I have worn the iconic number 9 shirt and added some more history to it. Scoring the Gallowgate -one is really as special as they say. All good things are coming to an end, but there is no doubt that Newcastle United will always have a place in mine and my hearts hearts.”

Calvert-Lewin can be an ideal replacement for Wilson and the fact that Newcastle can offer him the opportunity to play in the Champions League can be an important sales argument, since United is not eligible for Europe.

Calvert-Lewin has struggled with injury problems in recent years and has previously opened the impact they have had on his mental health. “Love and support helped me to carry,” said Calvert-Lewin in 2022.

“One thing I learned this season is that everyone is fighting which walk of life against fighting, you know nothing about, and it's not a shame to find someone to talk to and be open and honest with yourself about how you really feel.

“I advise you to talk to all the young kings who suppress emotion, to talk to a friend, family member or someone who will listen, talked to my life.”
